Türkiye Expresses Interest in Importing Kazakh Wheat and Lentils
Türkiye has shown a strong interest in increasing its imports of wheat and lentils from Kazakhstan, following recent discussions between the two nations.
This development emerged during the visit of Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture, Aidarbek Saparov, to Türkiye, where significant agreements were made to enhance the export of Kazakh agricultural products.
As reported by BasAgro.kz, the Kazakh delegation included Rustam Zhanatayev, Managing Director of the Food Corporation, who played a key role in these negotiations. One of Türkiye’s leading agricultural companies, Armada Gıda, expressed a particular interest in boosting its imports of Kazakh lentils. The company, which has already been sourcing lentils from Kostanay, Kazakhstan, plans to consolidate export batches to streamline shipments to Türkiye, providing Kazakh farmers with greater access to international markets. This initiative is expected to support small and medium-sized agricultural producers in Kazakhstan.
In addition, a memorandum was signed with Tiryaki Holding for the supply of 250,000 tons of Kazakh wheat. Tiryaki Holding is involved in a project for deep grain processing in Astana, which could further enhance cooperation between the two countries.
Rustam Zhanatayev also met with Ahmet Guldal, Director General of the Turkish Grain Authority (TMO), to discuss increasing the volume of Kazakh grain exports to Türkiye and exploring investment opportunities in Kazakhstan’s agricultural processing sector. TMO, a key state agency in Türkiye responsible for regulating the grain market, is seen as a crucial partner in expanding Kazakhstan’s agricultural exports.
Each year, the Turkish Grain Authority purchases substantial quantities of grain, averaging 10 million tons, particularly wheat, to stabilize domestic prices and ensure the country’s food security. This new collaboration between Kazakhstan and Türkiye marks a significant step toward strengthening agricultural trade between the two nations.
