Türkiye Defeats Austria to Reach Euro Quarterfinals

Demiral's double helps Türkiye win against Austria in Euro 2024's Round of 16

The Turkish and Austrian teams faced off in Leipzig to compete for the last spot in the quarter-finals.

The match was relatively calm, but Merih Demiral from the Turkish national team stood out. He scored a goal just 57 seconds into the game, the fastest goal in the history of the European Championships. Demiral scored again in the 59th minute, increasing Türkiye’s lead and becoming the first Turkish player to score two goals in a European Championship match, setting two records.

Young Real Madrid star Arda Guler assisted the second goal and played a key role in the victory.

The Austrian team managed to score in the 66th minute, but the score remained 2-1 until the end of the game, securing Türkiye’s victory.

After defeating Austria, Türkiye will face the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

England will also play against Switzerland. These matches are scheduled for July 6. On July 5, Spain will play against Germany and Portugal will face France to determine the semi-finalists. The winners of these matches will advance directly to the semi-finals.
