Türkiye Begins Reconstruction of Damascus International Airport

Türkiye has sent specialists and necessary equipment to Syria’s capital airport to restore its former operational capacity.

Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that a team of 25 experts has started renovation work at Damascus International Airport as part of efforts to rebuild the country’s infrastructure.

— Türkiye has sent machinery and equipment to Syria. This is an important step in rebuilding the country after more than a decade of civil war, — the Turkish minister stated.

The project involves highly skilled technical specialists working on restoring and installing key airport systems, including navigation, terminal, and emergency response systems.

One of the top priorities is the reconstruction of the air traffic control tower. Currently, two new radio transmitters have been installed, and navigation devices have been repaired.

To enhance the terminal’s security and reliability, Türkiye has dispatched 113 units of specialized equipment to Damascus. The airport has also received ten X-ray scanners, metal detectors, and explosive detection devices, some of which have already been installed.

This cooperation marks a strengthening of ties between Türkiye and Syria and represents a significant contribution to the restoration of Syria’s infrastructure.
