Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Budapest on Monday on an invitation from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Turanews.kz reports.
Erdogan was met at the Franz Liszt International Airport by Hungarian State Minister for EU Affairs Janos Boka, Head of the Protocol Service of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry Anet Varg, Hungarian Ambassador to Ankara Viktor Matis and Turkish Ambassador to Budapest Gülshen Karanis Eksioglu.
The Turkish president is accompanied on the trip by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Ashkin Bak, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir, Minister of Trade Omer Bolat, Head of the Communications Department under the Presidential Administration Fahrettin Altun, presidential adviser Akif Çağatay Kılıç and other officials.
Erdogan and Orban are expected to discuss various aspects of bilateral relations between Türkiye and Hungary, including trade, investment, energy, and tourism. They will also exchange views on regional and international issues, such as the war in Ukraine and the refugee crisis.
In addition to bilateral talks, Erdogan is also expected to take part in events on the occasion of Hungary’s national holiday, the Day of the Foundation of the Hungarian State, and the World Athletics Championships taking place in the country.
The Turkish president’s visit to Hungary is the latest in a series of high-level meetings between the two countries. In May, Orban visited Türkiye and met with Erdogan to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation.
The two countries have a long history of friendly relations. Türkiye was one of the first countries to recognize Hungary’s independence after the fall of the Soviet Union. The two countries have also worked together on a number of regional and international issues, such as the fight against terrorism and the refugee crisis.
