Turkish Foreign Minister to Visit Uzbekistan for Security and Cooperation Talks

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is scheduled to visit Uzbekistan on September 12, 2024, for consultations aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations, according to the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

The visit will focus on expanding collaboration in foreign policy and security, with trilateral consultations set to take place involving ministers of foreign affairs, interior, and intelligence from both countries. The discussions will cover bilateral political and economic relations as well as security cooperation.

Fidan will also meet with Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov to review the implementation of decisions made at the June 2024 High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting. Key topics will include cooperation in the economy, defense, energy, transport, culture, education, and the fight against illegal migration and terrorism.

The visit highlights the growing significance of Turkish-Uzbek relations, with trade between the two nations reaching $3.12 billion in 2023 and Turkish investments in Uzbekistan totaling $1.5 billion. Both countries aim to raise their trade volume to $5 billion in the near future.
