Turkish Doctor to Oversee NASA Astronauts’ Health

A researcher at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of South Florida (USA), Turkish doctor Begüm Aydoğan Mathyk, will take part in NASA’s research mission.

Her main task is to conduct a comprehensive medical examination of female astronauts from NASA. This mission is scheduled for 2026 and will take place aboard the Virgin Galactic spacecraft.

According to Begüm Aydoğan Mathyk, she moved to the United States to actively participate in innovative projects. Previously, she completed an internship in Aviation and Space Medicine at the Johnson Space Center in Houston and enhanced her qualifications in “space medicine” through NASA’s STAR program.

Currently, the Turkish doctor is actively involved in developing medical standards and technologies aimed at ensuring the health of female astronauts. Her expertise in obstetrics and gynecology contributes significantly to preparing female crews for space missions.
