Turkish-Azerbaijani University Opens Its Doors

Classes have officially begun at the Turkish-Azerbaijani University (TAÜ) in Baku, following an initiative by Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ilham Aliyev. The university welcomed its first cohort of 86 students, who will study in three engineering fields: computer, industrial, and food engineering.

TAÜ is a collaborative effort between Azerbaijan Technical University and three prominent Turkish institutions: Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ), Istanbul Technical University (ITÜ), and Hacettepe University. Each Turkish university oversees one of the specialties offered.

The memorandum for the university’s establishment was signed on February 19, 2024, in Ankara by representatives from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Science and Education and Türkiye’s Higher Education Council (YÖK), with both presidents in attendance.

The primary objectives of TAÜ include training qualified specialists and harnessing the research capabilities of both Türkiye and Azerbaijan. The university aims to provide secondary vocational, higher, and postgraduate education programs, targeting international students and introducing a new higher education model in the region.
