Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Budapest on Sunday, as part of an official visit to Hungary. The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen Uzbek-Turkish relations and expand multifaceted cooperation, Turanews.kz reports.
The presidents noted with satisfaction the continuing intensive contacts and exchanges between the two countries, and the noticeable increase in mutual trade turnover. The Agreement on Preferential Trade, which came into force on July 1, 2023, is expected to further boost trade between Türkiye and Uzbekistan. The number of joint ventures between the two countries has also exceeded 2,500.
The presidents also discussed plans for the implementation of investment projects in Uzbekistan, as well as a schedule of upcoming bilateral and multilateral events, including meetings of the joint Strategic Cooperation Council, summits of the Organization of Turkic States and the Economic Cooperation Organization.
The meeting between the two presidents was a clear demonstration of the strong and growing ties between Türkiye and Uzbekistan. The two countries are committed to working together to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
