Media experts from across the Turkic world gathered in Ankara to discuss strategies for combating disinformation.
The forum, held under the “Turkic World Vision – 2040” program, brought together specialists from member and observer states of the Organization of Turkic States. Kazakhstan was represented by officials from the Ministry of Culture and Information as well as heads of media outlets.
Speakers noted that with the rapid rise of social media, disinformation has become a serious global threat, even posing risks to national security.
Burhanettin Duran, head of the Directorate of Communications under the President of Türkiye, emphasized that Turkic countries face coordinated disinformation attacks targeting their reputation, unity, and regional cooperation. He called for deeper mutual understanding and a unified international image of the Turkic world.
Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Culture and Information, Kanat Iskakov, outlined three key tools in countering false information: media literacy, collaboration among media leaders, and timely government responses to debunk fake content.
Bolat Mürsəlim, Director of “Qazaqstan” TV, stressed that the forum aims to build a common information space, establish joint fact-checking mechanisms, improve rapid information exchange, and strengthen cooperation.
Participants agreed that enhancing information-sharing among Turkic nations is essential for effective, coordinated action against disinformation.
