Turkic World Gathers in Ankara for TURKSOY Iftar

Representatives of Turkic nations convened in Ankara for a Ramadan iftar hosted by TURKSOY, bringing together diplomats, public figures and scholars in a display of cultural solidarity.

The event, organized at the initiative of Secretary General Sultan Raev, highlighted the importance of spiritual unity during the holy month. Among the distinguished attendees were Türkiye’s Deputy Foreign Minister Berris Ekinci and Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Türkiye Yerkebulan Sapiyev, alongside delegates from other Turkic republics.

Guests were served traditional plov prepared with rice specially delivered from Andijan, designated as the 2026 Cultural Capital of the Turkic World. Raev described the dish as a symbol of the fertile Fergana Valley and the shared historical heritage of Turkic peoples.

Discussions during the evening also touched upon the transition to a common alphabet, strengthening cultural cooperation and preparations for the upcoming Nowruz celebrations. The gathering concluded with a Quran recitation and expressions of goodwill among participants.
