Turkic Countries Adopt Unified Alphabet

The Turkic World Unified Alphabet Commission, established under the Turkic States Organization, has approved a new alphabet consisting of 34 letters.

According to TRT HABER, this decision was made at the third meeting of the Commission, which was held with the participation of the Turkic Academy and the Turkish Language Institute.

The commission reports that a unified Turkic alphabet with 34 letters has been adopted. The new alphabet revises the version created in 1991 and incorporates necessary changes.

“This alphabet will strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation among Turkic peoples. Developing a unified alphabet will help preserve and advance the linguistic heritage of Turkic nations,” the statement said.

The adopted version of the unified Turkic alphabet has not yet been published.

It is worth noting that the unified Turkic alphabet was first adopted in 1991 and was introduced in Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan. However, except for Azerbaijan, the other countries later abandoned its use.
