Turkey introduces accommodation tax for tourists

The Republic of Turkey will introduce a mandatory accommodation tax for tourists from January 1, 2023.

As reported by Turkish Revenue Administration, the mandatory accommodation tax will be 2 percent. The tax will charged for all services, including accommodation in hotels, resorts, and other accommodations. While how the tax will be issued and collected has not yet been clarified but fot the tourists traveling on a package tour, the tax is expected to be added to the tour price.

Turkey was planing to introduce the tax on tourist accommodation in 2019 year but the decision has been delayed for several reasons, including the impact of the pandemic that began in 2020.
However as tourism industry in Turkey has been booming since this summer, it has become another reason for the introduction of the tourist tax.
