A draft law on providing special status to Turkestan is being prepared by the Mazhilis parliament, TuraNews.kz reports citing 24.kz.
The document outlines new powers for local authorities to support the city’s development. Craftsmen in the tourism sector will receive subsidies, and the law aims to boost investments and infrastructure in Turkestan. Efforts are also planned to enhance the city’s tourist appeal and drive economic growth in the coming years.
Turkestan, an ancient city of Central Asia and the Turanian steppe, became a religious center of the Turkic world after the construction of the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi in the 14th century. Granting special status to Turkestan is seen as a significant initiative for the Turkic world, aiming to strengthen its spiritual and historical ties.
