Turkestan Hosts Grand Opening of 2nd Turkic Universiade, Signifying New Era of Sporting Excellence

The 2nd Turkic Universiade commenced with a splendid inauguration ceremony in Turkestan, marking a significant milestone in the world of sports. This remarkable sporting event was organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, TuraNews.kz reports citing the department’s press service.

As the first event of its kind following the X Summit of the Organization of Turkic States under Kazakhstan’s leadership, the 2nd Turkic Universiade embodies a new era of cooperation and athletic prowess. The grand opening saw the participation of esteemed figures, including Deputy Secretary-General of the Organization of Turkic States, Sadi Jafarov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, and Akim of the Turkestan region, Darkhan Satybaldy, who extended their best wishes to the talented Turkic youth.

The Universiade has drawn approximately 450 participants hailing from Kazakhstan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Hungary. These exceptional athletes are set to engage in fierce competition across seven sporting disciplines, encompassing table tennis, chess, volleyball, futsal, judo, freestyle wrestling, and Greco-Roman wrestling.

The sporting fervor of the Universiade is unfolding at the Olympic Center Sports Complex and the International Kazakh-Turkish University, named after H. A. Yasawi. The spirited competitions will culminate with the announcement of the victors on November 10, as participants from the Turkic world come together to showcase their athletic talents and foster a spirit of camaraderie and competition.
