In a Truth Social post, Trump stated that the 90-day tariff suspension applies to more than 75 nations that approached the U.S. government—particularly the Department of Commerce—to address trade issues. He emphasized that these countries had not retaliated against the U.S.
“Based on the fact that over 75 countries approached the United States, including the Department of Commerce, to discuss trade barriers and tariffs—and have not taken any retaliatory actions—I have authorized an immediate 90-day pause and a significant mutual tariff reduction to 10%, effective immediately,” Trump wrote.
However, this exemption does not apply to China.
“Due to China’s ongoing disrespect for the global market, I am raising the United States’ tariff on Chinese goods to 125%, effective immediately. I hope China realizes soon that robbing the U.S. and other nations is no longer acceptable or sustainable,” he added.
