Addressing Qatar’s Advisory Council, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev underscored the robust partnership between Kazakhstan and Qatar, emphasizing shared values and mutual support. President Tokayev commended Qatar’s progressive economy and peaceful foreign policy under the leadership of Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, while also applauding Qatar’s initiative to hold legislative elections in 2021.
Tokayev outlined Kazakhstan’s commitment to justice, the rule of law, and accountability in building a more inclusive political system and economy. He highlighted the flourishing partnership between Kazakhstan and Qatar across various sectors, including energy, mining, agriculture, and tourism, expressing optimism for further collaboration and increased trade volume.
The President stressed the need for comprehensive reforms and dialogue to address geopolitical conflicts, terrorism, and climate emergencies, advocating for a reformed Security Council that better represents the voices of middle powers and developing countries. Tokayev praised Qatar’s peacekeeping efforts and mediation in conflicts worldwide, including Palestine.
Tokayev also emphasized Kazakhstan’s assistance to Afghanistan and its efforts to support the Afghan people’s integration into the global community. He highlighted Central Asia’s evolving role in history and the region’s potential for fostering regional cooperation, particularly in partnership with Qatar.
Looking ahead, Tokayev discussed Kazakhstan’s plans to intensify cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and its commitment to addressing climate change through collective action and cooperation. He concluded by expressing hope for closer parliamentary diplomacy between Kazakhstan and Qatar, building on the strong foundation of bilateral relations established over the past 30 years.
