President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting in a restricted format with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, the Akorda press service reported.
“Mr. President, I am pleased to welcome you to Kazakhstan. This is your first official visit to our country. We have a Kazakh proverb that says: ‘When neighbors are in harmony, it brings prosperity.’ The Caspian Sea connects our two nations. For Kazakhstan, Iran is a close neighbor and a reliable partner in the Middle East. We hold deep respect for the Iranian people. Despite various challenges, our relationship continues to steadily develop. Our ties are rooted in history — we share similar customs, traditions, and cultural heritage. Over the centuries, our peoples have maintained strong interaction. Kazakhstan has always supported Iran; there are no unresolved issues between us. I believe our countries have vast potential for cooperation. Today, Astana and Tehran maintain a constructive political dialogue, including at the government level. Bilateral agreements are being implemented, interparliamentary cooperation is strengthening, and trade and economic relations are expanding. In the first ten months of this year, trade turnover increased by 40% compared to 2024, a very positive result. We must preserve this momentum and further boost mutual trade,” President Tokayev said.
For his part, President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed his pleasure at visiting Kazakhstan, describing it as a fraternal and friendly nation with a rich history and culture.
“Our relations are steadily progressing across a wide range of areas. Our governments maintain effective cooperation. I am confident that we have tremendous potential to deepen partnership in political, economic, cultural, humanitarian fields, as well as in matters of security,” the Iranian leader noted.
Earlier, President Tokayev welcomed President Pezeshkian at the Akorda residence.
