President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced that a nationwide vote regarding the nuclear power plant project will take place on October 6, according to a statement from the presidential administration’s press service via their Telegram channel.
Tokayev emphasized that the construction of the plant is a significant decision that requires the consent of both the government and the public. He also reminded the public that he had called for this referendum in 2023 and will sign the necessary decree to move forward.
“I believe it is crucial to prioritize the development of nuclear energy. This form of energy generation can significantly meet the growing demands of our economy. Currently, around 200 nuclear power plants are in operation across 30 developed and developing nations,” Tokayev said.
