TIKA supports children with disabilities in Mongolia

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) established special education classes in 2 schools in the capital city Ulanbaatar so that children with disabilities can benefit from education in public schools in Mongolia.

There are approximately 11,000 children with disabilities between the ages of 2 and 17 in Mongolia.

The Mongolian Ministry of Education and Science follows the policy of children with disabilities receiving education together with other children in pre-school education. However, many families could not send their children to school because there was no suitable educational environment for disabled children in public schools.

Special Education Class for the State Nursery No. 51

TIKA launched an exemplary project in Mongolia to enable disabled children to participate in education. In this context, an education class equipped with special education materials and equipment was established in the state kindergarten No. 51 in the capital city of Ulanbator. In the classroom with a capacity of 20 students, there are many special training materials such as a ramp with a ladder, a physiotherapy bed, a crawling support, a gait training ramp, and a balance bench.

“This project will set an example for our other schools”

Mongolian Ministry of Education and Science, Chief Specialist for Pre-School Education Purevsaihan Soortoon said, “This project is very important for us. Because we plan to set an example for our other schools and to open these classes in more schools so that our children with disabilities can attend pre-school education. I would like to thank the Turkish people and TIKA for providing us with this opportunity.”

141. Special Education Class for the Visually Impaired at the Public School

TIKA also established a special education class at the 141st Public School, located in the region where visually impaired students mostly reside, in order to enable disabled students to receive education on an equal basis with other children. There are 31 visually impaired students in the school, where approximately 3,500 students receive education from the 1st to the 12th grade.

In the classroom established by TIKA for visually impaired children, there are many special equipment and educational materials such as Braille embossed writing learning board, audio book reading and recording device, Braille mathematics learning kit, hearing aid technology, screen magnifier and reader software.

With the projects carried out in schools in the capital city of Ulanbator, it is aimed that these schools will set an example for other schools and that children with disabilities will benefit from education equally with other children across the country.
