The “Silk Road” Checkpoint on the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan Border to Close
The "Kaplanbek-Navoiy" checkpoint on the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan border, which had been closed for repairs in 2023, has resumed its operations today.
According to an agreement between the customs services of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, the “Kaplanbek” checkpoint will be opened for pedestrians, light vehicles, and buses. This decision was made in response to the temporary closure of the “Gisht-Kuprik” checkpoint (known as the “Silk Road” checkpoint on the Kazakhstan side), which will be closed for two months starting from February 1.
In light of these changes, the customs services of both countries have advised travelers to plan their trips in advance.
Currently, other checkpoints for vehicles between the two countries are operational: “Konysbaev-Yallama,” “Kazygurt-Nadzhimov,” and “Atameken-Gulistan.”
Additionally, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are setting up an emergency task force to address cargo transportation issues.
