The leader of the Turkish Cypriots noted the importance of OTS summit for the interests of Lefkosa
Ersin Tatar called the summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Ankara an "important milestone" in the struggle for the interests of the TRNC
President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar stated the importance of the presence of the TRNC at the site of the extraordinary summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), held in Ankara on March 16.
“Participation in the summit as an observer member is an “important milestone” in the struggle of the Turkish Cypriots for their independence and freedom,” the President of the TRNC said in an interview with Anadolu.
According to him, yesterday left a mark in the history of the Republic, because it was very important for the TRNC to take part in the summit under its own name. “It was really very important for us to take part in such an international meeting for the first time under our constitutional name TRNC, to attend the meeting together with other heads of state, and also to take joint photos under the flags,” Tatar said.
The TRNC President thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and all those who contributed to the organization of the summit.
“The day before, we once again demonstrated to the world that the Turkish Cypriots are citizens of a sovereign state,” the TRNC leader stressed.
According to him, the new geopolitical realities imply the presence and coexistence of two separate states in Cyprus. “Therefore, the presence of Turkish Cypriots, who are an integral part of the Turkish state, on the same platform with representatives of the Turkic countries is of great national importance for us,” Tatar said.
The TRNC President recalled the speech of President Erdogan at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on the lifting of the embargo on Turkish Cypriots. “The phased removal of this outdated and cruel lockdown will pave the way for the Republic. The TRNC should be registered as a separate sovereign state,” the head of the TRNC stressed.
The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States was established in 2009.
In November 2021, at the summit in Istanbul, the organization was named the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye and Uzbekistan are main members of OTS. Hungary, TRNC and Turkmenistan participate as observers.
