The era of Nuclear energy is about to start in Türkiye

The Works continue at Türkiye's first nuclear power plant Akkuyu. The first unit will be commissioned on 29 October 2023 and veyr first time in the history of history of Türkiye that the electricity will be generated from a nuclear energy platfrom.

While the works on Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is coming to an end, the very first unit is expected to be commissioned this year, Turanews.kz reports.

Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is feverishly preparing for the 100th anniversary of the Republic. The first unit of the power plant will be commissioned in October and Türkiye will have produced energy from a nuclear power plant for the first time in history.

Four power units are simultaneously under construction

The power plant has the distinction of being the largest single-item investment in the history of the Republic. Four power units are being built simultaneously at the world’s largest nuclear power plant site. The assembly of the inner protection shell in the first unit of the power plant has been completed.

All units will be completed by 2026

The remaining units of Akkuyu NPP, designed to have an installed capacity of 4,800 megawatts with a total of 4 reactors, are aimed to be completed by 2026.

It will contribute $50 billion to Turkish economy

Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant will reduce foreign dependency in energy. When operating at full capacity, it will produce 35 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year which means Türkiye can meet 10% of its energy needs on its own. The giant project will contribute $ 50 billion to the Turkish economy.

It is aimed to complete the remaining units of the power plant by 2026.
