In recent years, apricot production have been increased in Tajikistan thanks to the farmers are harvesting a bountiful harvest using best practices. The country is willing to expand exports of apricot to Europe and for this Tajikistan is planing to have the necessary certificates.
What Tajikistan will gain by joining the FAO project?
One of the aspects of the development of the apricot business in Tajikistan, according to the FAO international consultant Bakhtiyor Abduvokhidov, cited by the EastFruit Internet portal, is the production of organic apricot and products of its processing, in particular, dried organic apricot, as well as organically certified apricot concentrate or puree.
According to Abduvokhidov, this would contribute to an increase in the share of premium products in the total export of these products, which is now carried out at minimal prices.
For example, Moldova earned more than $3 million from the sale of 5 thousand tons of fresh apricots, while with the same export volume, Tajikistan earned about $1 million.
Joining the FAO One Country – One Priority Product project will help promote Tajik products to world markets at better prices than current ones.
