Tajikistan President to visit Kazakhstan for trade, economic talks

Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon will pay a working visit to Kazakhstan on August 25-26, 2023, at the invitation of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Turanews.kz reports.

During the visit, Rahmon and Tokayev will hold high-level talks on trade, economic, transport, logistics, and investment cooperation. They will also attend the opening ceremony of the Days of Culture of Tajikistan in Kazakhstan and visit an exhibition of agricultural products from Tajikistan.

The visit is part of the efforts by the two countries to strengthen their bilateral ties. Tajikistan and Kazakhstan are linked by a long border and have a shared interest in promoting regional cooperation.

The trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan is growing. In 2022, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $1.5 billion. Tajikistan is a major supplier of agricultural products to Kazakhstan, while Kazakhstan is a major supplier of energy and industrial products to Tajikistan.

The transport and logistics cooperation between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan is also growing. The two countries are working to develop a new transit corridor that will connect Tajikistan with China and other countries in East Asia.

The investment cooperation between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan is also growing. Kazakh companies are investing in a number of projects in Tajikistan, including the construction of a new hydroelectric power plant and a new road.
