According to materials from the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, the detainee assisted in the preparation of sabotage activities in third countries.
Azer Bagirov, accused of espionage, was detained in the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as a result of a special operation by the State Security Service and brought to Azerbaijan.
— Bagirov Azer Akif ogly was recruited by a foreign intelligence service to organize provocations in third countries. Acting in her interests, he engaged in espionage and harmed the national security of Azerbaijan, — the statement said.
The detainee was charged under Article 274 of the Criminal Code (high treason).
In early November, Allahverdi Mamedov, who was on the international wanted list, was extradited from Germany to Azerbaijan. He was charged with fraud, bribery, forgery of documents and organizing illegal migration.
In August, the Baku Court for Grave Crimes delivered a verdict against Azerbaijani citizens found guilty of secretly cooperating with the Armenian intelligence service.
According to the indictment, Rashad Akhmedov “covertly carried out the tasks of the Armenian special services, harming the sovereignty and security of his country in exchange for financial interests.” He, along with Rovshan Amirov and others, made videos inciting interethnic and religious hatred, and then distributed them on the YouTube platform and other social networks.
