South Korean Opposition Pushes for Presidential Impeachment

South Korea's Democratic Party of Toburo has called for the resignation of President Yoon Seok-yeol following his controversial declaration of martial law, which was reversed just hours later.

The opposition party, holding 170 of the 300 seats in parliament, has threatened to impeach the president. However, impeachment requires a two-thirds majority, and the ruling party’s control of more than one-third of the seats could block the motion.

President Yoon had earlier addressed the nation to announce martial law, sparking criticism and political turmoil. In response, the Kazakh Embassy in South Korea issued a notice advising its citizens in the country.

President Yoon has since lifted the martial law declaration, but tensions between the administration and opposition remain high.
