The decision came after the opposition Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) withdrew their referendum proposal just before the parliamentary session on Tuesday evening. The SDS deputies left the meeting, allowing the remaining members to proceed with the vote.
“Today’s recognition of Palestine as a sovereign and independent state brings hope to the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip,” said Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob in a social media post.
