Shaki Hosts Memorial Event Marking 100th Anniversary of Bakhtiyar Vahabzade

A solemn evening was held in Shaki, Azerbaijan, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of renowned poet and thinker Bakhtiyar Vahabzade. The year 2025 was officially declared the “Year of Bakhtiyar Vahabzade” by TURKSOY.

The event, organized by the International Mahmud Kashgari Society and Academy in cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, highlighted the literary legacy of Vahabzade and his enduring impact on the Turkic world. Attendees gathered at the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center and viewed exhibitions featuring historical artifacts and works of art from across the Turkic world.

TURKSOY Secretary General and Kyrgyz People’s Writer Sultan Raev emphasized that Vahabzade is not only a pillar of Azerbaijani literature but also a spiritual figure for the entire Turkic world. “Every letter, every punctuation mark in his poetry echoes love for the homeland and the people,” he noted.

During the ceremony, several prominent individuals were honored for their contributions to Turkic culture:

  • MP and scholar Javanşir Feyzi received the TURKSOY Gold Medal and Order of Honor,
  • Professor Nadir Mammadli was awarded the TURKSOY Medal,
  • Dr. Hayale Zarrabqizi was presented with a certificate of appreciation.
