Severe Frost and Snow Hit Türkiye: Coldest Temperatures in 30 Years Recorded

Some regions of Türkiye have experienced the coldest temperatures in the last 30 years, according to the country’s Minister of Agriculture İbrahim Yumaklı.

The announcement was made on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Yumaklı stated that weather conditions worsened particularly between April 10 and 12, with temperatures dropping to as low as -15°C. Snowfall and hail were also observed in several areas.

“In certain regions, we recorded the lowest temperatures in the past three decades. Unfortunately, this is the first time since 2014 that we’ve faced such destructive frost. This has been a major challenge for the agricultural sector,” he wrote.

The minister added that crops such as apricots, walnuts, grapes, onions, and potatoes were affected. He assured that the government is preparing support measures for the impacted farmers.
