Seven Miners Killed in Coal Bunker Collapse in Shanxi, China
Seven miners have tragically lost their lives in a coal bunker collapse incident in north China's Shanxi province, as confirmed by local authorities following a search and rescue operation.
The county government reported that the final body was recovered at 6:23 a.m. on Friday, marking the conclusion of the search and rescue efforts at the Taoyuan Xinlong coal industrial corporation’s coal mine in Zhongyang County.
The incident occurred at 10:45 pm on Monday when maintenance work was being conducted on a failed coal feeder at the mine, trapping the seven miners beneath the rubble, according to mine manager Gao Naichun.
Gao Naichun further explained that the collapsing coal had damaged water pipes underneath the warehouse, resulting in a surge of water that hindered rescue efforts.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
