Scientific and Cultural Center Named After Abai Opens in Uzbekistan

On October 21, Uzbekistan celebrated the opening of the Abai Scientific and Cultural Center and the Department of Kazakh Language and Literature at Samarkand State University, named after Sh. Rashidov. The event marked a significant step in strengthening cultural and educational ties between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by key figures, including representatives from the Ministries of Science and Higher Education of both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Beibut Atamkulov, Rector of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University (KazNPU) Bolat Tlep, and Rector of Samarkand State University Rustam Khalmuradov.

In his speech, Bolat Tlep emphasized the importance of the collaboration between the two countries, stating, “The opening of the Abai Scientific and Cultural Center and the Department of Kazakh Language and Literature is a significant step in strengthening our ties in education and culture. This is the seventh Abai Center worldwide established by Abai University, and it will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange and the development of friendship and mutual understanding between Turkic-speaking peoples.”

As part of the event, a meeting took place between representatives of Abai KazNPU, Samarkand State University’s rector, and faculty from the Faculty of Philology, where the strategic importance of cooperation between these educational institutions was discussed.

The new center aims to foster intercultural ties between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, promote the literary heritage of the Kazakh poet and thinker Abai, and spark interest among young people in language studies. Additionally, it will help nurture multicultural identities and strengthen the spiritual connections between students from both nations.

Earlier this year, the Alisher Navoi Language and Literature Center was opened at Abai KazNPU to study and promote the work of the renowned Uzbek poet. Currently, 148 students from Uzbekistan are enrolled at the leading pedagogical university in Kazakhstan.
