Russia Blocks Record Number of Websites in 2024
In 2024, Russian authorities restricted access to a record 523,000 websites, with more than 417,000 still blocked, according to the news outlet "Verstka."
Citing data from “Roskomsvoboda,” Verstka reported that 2024 saw the highest number of website restrictions since monitoring began in 2012. Of the total blocked sites, around 106,000 were later unblocked, while the remaining 417,000 remain inaccessible.
Despite these figures, the percentage of restored sites remains low, with only about 20% of blocked resources being reinstated. The report also highlights that the number of website restrictions was even higher in 2023, when access to 571,000 sites was restricted, leaving approximately 197,000 permanently blocked.
