Roads in Five Kazakh Regions Shut Down Due to Flooding

As of 08:30 on April 17th, traffic on eleven major roads spanning five regions of Kazakhstan has been disrupted due to flooding caused by rapidly melting snow. The closures were enacted in response to safety concerns arising from the weather warming up.

According to a report from “Kazavtozhol”, a state-owned company responsible for the country’s road infrastructure, the flooding affected eight sections of roads, totaling 7575 meters in length across three regions: Akmola, SKO, and Kostanai.

The affected regions include Aktobe, Akmola, Atyrau, Kostanay, and SKO. A total of 411 kilometers of highways of national significance have been impacted by these closures.

“Currently, 356 pieces of equipment and 438 personnel have been deployed to address the situation on the national roads,” stated officials from “Kazavtozhol” NC JSC.
