Ramadan in Central Asia and the Caucasus

The month of Ramadan will begin tomorrow in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

The authorized institution of Azerbaijan on religious issues announced that the Ramadan will begin on Thursday, March 23 in the country.

According to the institution, Eid the Ramadan will be celebrated on April 21.

Muslims in Kazakhstan will perform their first taraweeh prayer ( a special prayer Muslims perform only in the month of Ramadan) today. Chief Mufti Nauryzbai Taganuly will stand in the largest mosque of Central Asia in Astana for the taraweeh prayer and read the congratulatory message.

Charity events will also be held in the country during the month of Ramadan.

In the statement made by the Religious Administration of Muslims of Uzbekistan, it was stated that the 30th day of the month of Sha’ban was completed today, according to the Hijri Calendar, and Thursday is the first day of Ramadan, due to the fact that the crescent could not be seen during the crescent observation process made with the experts of the Astronomy Institute yesterday.

Religious authorities in Kyrgyzstan also announced that Ramadan will begin on March 23. Muslims in the country will perform the first taraweeh prayer on March 22. Taraweeh prayers in mosques across the country will be performed with hatim.

In the statement made by the Religious Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation, it was stated that the month of Ramadan will begin with the sunset today, and Muslims will fast on March 23.

In the statement, which stated that the Ramadan Feast will be celebrated on April 21, it was noted that the Council of Ulema Council of the Religious Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation took this decision according to the results of the International Conference on Unity in the Hijri Calendar held in Istanbul in 2016, and the data obtained from scientific and religious facts.
