Presidential Race Grows as Two More Candidates Join Azerbaijan’s Election Fray

The upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan, scheduled for February 7, 2024, are witnessing a surge in candidacy announcements, with two members of the Azerbaijani Parliament entering the race, TuraNews.kz reports citing Interfax.az.

Gudryat Gasanguliyev, a parliamentarian, and the head of the Popular Front of All Azerbaijan Party (BAXCP), has thrown his hat into the ring for the presidency. Simultaneously, Razi Nurullayev, another member of the parliament and leader of the National Front Party (MCP), has also declared his candidacy.

The Popular Front of All Azerbaijan Party and the National Front Party officially announced the nominations of Gasanguliyev and Nurullayev on Monday, signaling their entry into the presidential race.

With these latest additions, the total number of candidates vying for the presidency has reached six. The existing lineup includes the incumbent President Ilham Aliyev, parliament members Zahid Oruj and Fazil Mustafa, as well as Elshad Musayev, the Chairman of the Great Azerbaijan Party.
