President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Washington on December 21, where he met with US President Joe Biden, Tengrinews.kz reports.
During a speech at the start of the bilateral meeting between the two leaders, Biden accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of “increasing attacks against civilians” and of trying to “use winter as a weapon,” WIVB 4 reported.
Also, according to media reports, Biden said that Washington will continue to further strengthen Ukraine’s capabilities for self-defense, especially the air defense system (air defense).
Biden also promised Zelensky new “costs for the Kremlin.”
“Together with our partners, we’re also going to impose costs on the Kremlin and will support Ukraine in pursuing a just peace,” Biden said in the Oval Office, a reference to how Zelensky has said he hopes to see the war end. “President Zelensky, the United States stands with the brave people in Ukraine.”
Volodymyr Zelensky during the meeting presented Joe Biden with an award originally given to a Ukrainian soldier, reports The Independent.
According to him, the soldier, who is the captain of the HIMARS battery, wanted the award to be given to the President of the United States. Biden responded that the gesture was “undeserved, but valuable.” He added that the United States stands with the people of Ukraine and its leader.
