Construction of the plant began in October 2023, with the first test car expected to be produced in July 2024. According to Kia Qazaqstan CEO Kim Dae Ki, full-scale production is scheduled to start in October 2025, initially focusing on the Sorento model. By January 2026, the plant will begin manufacturing the updated Sportage model.
The facility is designed to produce up to 70,000 cars annually, creating 1,500 permanent jobs. The plant will feature advanced technology, including 70 robots for welding, painting, and assembly, ensuring high efficiency and environmental sustainability. The project, valued at $200 million, is largely funded by foreign investments, making up 80% of the total.
Additionally, the president was introduced to a component manufacturing cluster planned near the plant. Construction of the Localization Center is already underway, with KIA working to attract global suppliers for parts and components. Representatives from leading South Korean companies, KCC Corporation and Seoyon Ehwa, also expressed their commitment to setting up production in Kazakhstan.
