President Tokayev Meets World Taekwondo Federation President Chungwon Choue
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed World Taekwondo Federation (WT) President Chungwon Choue, describing his visit as an important event for Kazakhstan’s sports community and a testament to WT’s commitment to supporting the development of taekwondo in the country.

Tokayev emphasized that taekwondo is not only an Olympic sport but also a philosophy built on harmony, discipline, and mutual respect, uniting millions worldwide. He noted that hosting the G1-category international ranking tournament Kazakhstan Open 2025 in Astana will create significant opportunities for domestic athletes’ professional growth, experience exchange, and enhancing the competitiveness of the national federation.
The President expressed confidence that joint efforts will help popularize taekwondo in Kazakhstan and strengthen ties between nations.
For his part, Chungwon Choue thanked Tokayev for the warm welcome and consistent support for taekwondo’s development in Kazakhstan. He praised the organization level of the upcoming tournament, the growing public interest, and the achievements of Kazakh athletes on the international stage.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Tokayev awarded Choue the Order of Dostyk (Friendship) II Class for his significant contribution to global taekwondo development. In return, Choue presented the President with a ninth-dan black belt as a sign of deep respect.
