President Tokayev Meets Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov to Discuss Economic and Infrastructure Progress
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov to review the country's socio-economic performance, the ongoing harvest campaign, and preparations for the upcoming heating season.
Bektenov reported that Kazakhstan’s economy grew by 3.7% from January to August 2024. The construction sector saw the highest growth at 8.8%, followed by transport and warehousing (7.9%), communications (7.4%), trade (5.5%), and manufacturing (4.9%).
In agriculture, preferential financing has tripled, reaching 580 billion tenge. Currently, 70.2% of grain and leguminous crops have been harvested, yielding 17.2 million tons of grain. Farmers have been supplied with sufficient amounts of subsidized fuel to support the harvest.
Prime Minister Bektenov also informed the president about preparations for the heating season. Social facilities are fully prepared, and 98.3% of work on residential buildings is complete. The nation’s power plants have an annual coal demand of 60 million tons, and current stock levels are sufficient to meet this requirement.
The president was also updated on progress in implementing flood response measures and efforts to prevent future flooding. All victims of recent floods have received social support and compensation for damaged property, with 5,767 housing units provided and 2,576 new houses constructed. Ongoing work on 104 sites in Akmola and West Kazakhstan regions is nearing completion, and the Flood Prevention Plan is being actively implemented.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Tokayev gave further instructions to enhance the country’s industrial potential and continue modernizing infrastructure.
