President Tokayev Hosts Central Asia-Germany Summit

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan participated in the Central Asia-Germany summit, where he welcomed German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and other Central Asian leaders, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation.

President Tokayev highlighted the significance of high-level dialogues initiated in Berlin and expressed a commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships between Central Asia and Germany. He outlined key areas for cooperation, including trade, investment, energy, and logistics. Kazakhstan aims to increase trade with Germany and expand energy exports, particularly oil, while exploring joint projects in renewable energy, including hydrogen power and the Middle Corridor transport route.

Tokayev also stressed the need for collaboration on rare earth metals and invited German companies to invest in Kazakhstan’s industrial and technological sectors. He highlighted ongoing projects such as the $500 million lithium extraction project in East Kazakhstan.

In addition to economic cooperation, Tokayev emphasized environmental sustainability, water conservation, and educational partnerships, encouraging collaboration in fields like artificial intelligence and green technologies. He called for greater international cooperation, particularly in security and stability, voicing support for UN reforms that could elevate Germany to a permanent seat on the Security Council.

The summit concluded with a Joint Declaration, underscoring the commitment of Central Asian countries and Germany to deepen their partnership across various sectors.
