President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan arrived in the United States on Yesterday for a working visit. During his trip, he is scheduled to meet with US President Joe Biden, as well as other senior US officials, to discuss a range of issues of mutual interest, including trade, investment, security, and climate change.
The Wall Street Journal has emphasized the importance of the summit, which will be held on September 19 within the framework of the UN session, and will mark the first time that the US President will meet with the leaders of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. The C5+1 meeting could be one of the important steps for this region.
The American publication has also analyzed why cooperation with Central Asia is important. “The US needs to find a strategic way to the heart of the Eurasian continent, because historically it has had less influence than Russia and China. And now, when Moscow and Beijing face threats, Washington can strengthen ties with Central Asia. Strengthening cooperation with Kazakhstan, the main leader of the region, will be the main step,” the article says.
