President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov Arrives in Astana

The Turkmen leader is set to participate in the VI Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan has arrived in Astana, where he was greeted by Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister, Olzhas Bektenov, TuraNews.kz reports.

Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are steadily enhancing their trade and economic cooperation across various sectors. Over the past five years, the volume of mutual trade between the two countries has quadrupled, with a 28% increase in the past year alone. Trade turnover for the first six months of this year has reached $237.2 million.

Currently, the gas industry and the transit and transport sector are promising areas for further cooperation. Both countries are engaged in large-scale projects to improve infrastructure, including the construction of a new highway linking the Kazakhstan border with Garabogaz and Turkmenbashi, spanning 225 km, and a new bridge over the Garabogazgol Bay. Additionally, plans are underway to reconstruct a 165 km section of the Zhanaozen–Turkmenistan border highway.
