President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived on a working visit to the capital of Bulgaria – the city of Sofia, Turanews.kz reports citing the Press Service of the Presidency of Azerbijan.
Within the framework of the visit of the head of the Azerbaijani state, a signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding on the development of cooperation between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the gas transmission system operators of Bulgaria (Bulgartransgaz), Romania (Transgas), Hungary (FGSZ), Slovakia (Eustream) will be held.
It should be noted that the signing of the document is related to the Solidarity Ring (STRING) initiative proposed by Bulgaria and supported by the European Commission, the purpose of which is to increase the security of natural gas supplies to the EU, Central and South-Eastern Europe.
The memorandum is expected to be signed by Azerbaijani Energy Minister Perviz Shahbazov, Bulgarian Energy Minister Rosen Hristov, Romanian Energy Minister Virgil-Daniel Popescu, Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto and Slovak Economy Minister Karel Hirman.
At the end of the document signing ceremony, Aliyev and Radev will also open SOCAR office in Sofia.
