President Meets Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbaev

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbaev to discuss the current activities and future plans of the Senate.

During the meeting, Ashimbaev provided an overview of the Senate’s recent legislative work, noting that since the start of the third session, 28 laws have been passed, five of which were initiated by deputies. These legislative efforts have focused on implementing the President’s initiatives related to housing policy, education, child protection, pension systems, stock trading, entrepreneurship, the judicial system, and the fight against drug trafficking.

Currently, several Senate-initiated bills are under consideration, addressing labor rights, creative industries, forestry management, and protected natural areas.

It was noted that the Senate has conducted around 50 events this year, sent 67 parliamentary inquiries to the Government, and held over 40 international meetings as part of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

For the upcoming year, plans include reviewing the Budget, Construction, Water, and Tax Codes, as well as legislation related to the special status of the city of Turkestan and consumer rights protection. Parliamentary hearings focusing on the Year of Skilled Professions are also scheduled.

Ashimbaev also informed President Tokayev about the Senate’s work on the Parliamentary Monitoring Commission for Sustainable Development Goals, established following the President’s directives.

One of the Senate’s key priorities, according to Ashimbaev, remains the implementation of regional development goals set by the President. In this regard, the Senate has intensified cooperation with maslikhats (local councils).

Additionally, Ashimbaev briefed Tokayev on preparations for the VIII Congress of World and Traditional Religious Leaders, set to take place in September 2025.
