President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Attends Opening Ceremony of the 5th World Nomadic Games

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the grand opening of the 5th World Nomadic Games in Astana. Alongside him were prominent international figures such as President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan, Chairman Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan, Bilal Erdoğan, President of the World Ethnosports Confederation and other dignitaries from countries including Mongolia, and Russia.

The ceremony, held at the Astana Arena, featured a symbolic flag procession led by children of various ethnic groups and the performance of Kazakhstan’s National Anthem. Athletes from all over the world—including Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Australia—participated in the parade of nations, marking a global celebration of nomadic heritage.

In his speech, President Tokayev emphasized the historical significance of the nomadic civilization, praising the technological and cultural contributions of nomads from the Great Steppe. He highlighted the nomads’ mastery in horseback riding, advanced weaponry, and craftsmanship, as well as their role in fostering cultural exchange between East and West. Tokayev recognized the Kyrgyz Republic for initiating the Nomadic Games and expressed pride in Kazakhstan’s ability to host such a prestigious event.

Calling the games the “Olympics of Nomads,” Tokayev emphasized the event’s role in preserving nomadic heritage for future generations, promoting peace, and fostering international unity. He underscored Kazakhstan’s reputation as a country of harmony, where diverse ethnic groups live peacefully together.

The opening ceremony also included remarks from Roman Sklyar, Chairman of the Games’ Organizing Committee, and Bilal Erdoğan, President of the World Ethnosports Confederation. The event highlighted Kazakhstan’s dedication to preserving the rich culture and history of nomadic peoples while encouraging global solidarity.
