President Arrives at Congress Center for “Central Asia – European Union” Summit

Presidents and foreign delegations participating in the first-ever “Central Asia – European Union” summit have begun arriving at the Congress Center in Samarkand.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was welcomed by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Following the official photo session, President Tokayev took his seat in the main hall where the summit will take place.

It should be noted that President Tokayev arrived in Uzbekistan yesterday for a working visit. As part of his trip, he held meetings with European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso.

Later, President Tokayev met with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to discuss ways of deepening bilateral cooperation. The two leaders agreed to accelerate the launch of the International Industrial Cooperation Center.

Today’s summit will address joint transport and logistics projects, strategic raw materials partnerships, and the introduction of clean and efficient energy sources.

Earlier, European Council President António Costa stated that the summit would serve as a platform to strengthen cooperation that supports sustainable development in the region and the European Union.
