Premiere of the Kazakh Opera “Khan Sultan. The Golden Horde” Held in Istanbul

The opera “Khan Sultan. The Golden Horde” by composer Hamit Shangaliev made its debut in Istanbul.

This is the first time in Türkiye that the story of a woman who played a pivotal role in shaping the destiny of the Golden Horde is being told through opera. The premiere was made possible with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan, TuraNews.kz reports, citing 24.kz.

The opera was presented at Istanbul’s Atatürk Cultural Center, one of the city’s prominent cultural venues. The production, originally part of the Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theater named after Abai, commemorates the 800th anniversary of the founding of Ulus Jochi. According to the organizers, tickets were sold out within five days.

“In creating ‘Khan Sultan,’ we collaborated with historians who have globally studied the history of the Golden Horde,” said Bolat Bukenov, the head of the opera troupe.

“The premiere of this production first took place in Almaty, and for three consecutive days, we had full houses at the Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theater named after Abai”, he added.
