Poverty Levels Witness a 3% Decline in Uzbekistan

The Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Alleviation in Uzbekistan has reported a significant reduction in poverty levels over the past year.

In 2023, the poverty rate in the country decreased from 14% to 11%, reflecting a notable improvement in the economic well-being of the population.

This positive trend marks a 3% decrease compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. Various regions across Uzbekistan have experienced substantial declines in poverty rates, showcasing the effectiveness of poverty alleviation measures.

Key reductions in poverty were observed in specific regions:

  • Syrdarya region witnessed a decrease from 19.5% to 13.8%.
  • Andijan region experienced a decline from 17.4% to 11.9%.
  • Karakalpakstan saw a notable reduction from 19.9% to 13.7%.

While other regions, including Tashkent, Bukhara, and Kashkadarya, reported minimal changes in poverty rates, these developments underscore the concerted efforts and targeted strategies implemented by the government to address poverty at both regional and national levels.
