Passenger Plane Catches Fire at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport After Collision

In a startling incident at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, a Japan Airlines plane originating from Hokkaido caught fire on the runway following a collision with a coast guard plane. Fortunately, all 367 passengers and 12 crew members aboard the Airbus managed to evacuate the aircraft before it was entirely engulfed in flames, as reported by NHK.

According to NHK, one of the six crew members on the coast guard plane was confirmed safe, but the whereabouts of the remaining five were unknown at the time of reporting.

Reports from Japanese news agencies indicated that the coast guard plane was scheduled to take off to assist in rescue efforts following a recent strong earthquake in central Japan. A spokesman for the coast guard at Haneda airport, which ranks among the world’s busiest airports, stated that they were currently “checking the details.”

While the specifics of whether an actual collision occurred remain unclear, the coast guard spokesman emphasized, “But we know for sure that our plane is involved,” as conveyed to AFP. Authorities are actively investigating the incident to determine the exact sequence of events leading to this alarming situation.
