Panjakent has officially been designated as a “World Craft City” for its renowned suzani embroidery, reports TuraNews.kz, citing Kazinform.
According to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the honorary title was granted on October 21, 2025, marking an important step in preserving and promoting the country’s rich cultural heritage.
This recognition highlights the exceptional craftsmanship of Tajik artisans in ancient Panjakent and celebrates the centuries-old tradition of suzani embroidery that continues to flourish today.
The title “World Craft City” was awarded by the World Crafts Council (WCC), an organization affiliated with UNESCO, which recognizes cities that actively preserve and promote their traditional crafts.
Previously, cities such as Fez (Morocco), Jaipur (India), and Cholpon-Ata (Kyrgyzstan) have received similar recognition for their unique artisanal traditions.
